Desert Spirit on a Global Journey

Rhubee Neale

Hello friends,

My name is Rhubee Neale, a proud Anmatyerre and Arrernte woman from Central Australia, now living on Kaurna Country in Adelaide. Art and storytelling have always been my way of connecting—healing, sharing culture, and finding moments of peace.

I’ve started this GoFundMe journey because I have a dream that’s bigger than myself: to take my art and stories from the desert all the way to London, to share with the world the spirit of my country and people.

Why This Journey Matters to Me

For me, art isn’t just paint on canvas. It’s about healing, resilience, and hope. Every brushstroke carries memory, story, and connection. My paintings weave together glimpses of my life—some real, some imagined, some stories passed on to me.

This journey is about:

  • Carrying Culture – sharing my Anmatyerre and Arrernte heritage with new audiences.

  • Healing Through Creativity – showing how art and storytelling can bring peace, even through trauma.

  • Building Bridges – connecting people across oceans through culture, story, and spirit.

About Me

I’ve been painting, performing, and storytelling for many years. Along the way I’ve been blessed to:

  • Share music at festivals like The Dreaming Festival, Yabun, Tamworth Cultural Showcase, and the Alice Springs Desert Festival.

  • Exhibit my artwork in galleries including Glenelg Art Gallery.

  • Receive the honour of being named 2024 NAIDOC SA Creative Artist of the Year.

  • Work in community through art, music, and workshops that help create safe and healing spaces.

My art is my way of speaking. It’s how I honour my ancestors, tell stories of survival, and offer pathways of hope.

How You Can Be Part of This

I can’t take this journey alone—I need my community, near and far, to walk beside me.

You can help by:

  • Donating to my GoFundMe (every little bit makes a big difference).

  • Sharing my story with your friends, family, or networks.

  • Following along as I share updates, art, and reflections along the way.

From the Desert to the World

This journey isn’t just about me. It’s about carrying the spirit of the desert, the stories of my people, and the resilience of community into spaces that need to hear them.

With your support, I can make this dream a reality—and together, we can show the world that art has the power to heal, connect, and inspire.

With gratitude,

Rhubee Neale
